My name is Ciara also. I pronounce it just like the Sierra Mountains though. The meaning of my name is from Italian origin. Its supposed to be pronounced "chee-ARR-ah". Its a variant form of Clare. My mommy helped me find your web page and I think its nea to see how many other people with my name.

Ciara... the first time I heard that name was while staying in a remote youth hostel in Ireland. There were 36 schoolgirls from Belfast, then one of them started off a very long song. After she'd finished the first verse, she called out the name of a frie d, who had to sing exactly the same thing, then add the name of another friend, etc, etc, etc. As you'll guess, it took a long time to sing, with 36 verses, unless some of then skipped a turn. And do you know... the only name I can remember out of the who e lot was Ciara. Now does that make it memorable... or what! As for pronunciation... either pronounce it the Irish way... or pick another name!

Well both of my parents grew up in Ireland, and they came to Canada in the `70's. My mother didn't like how Canadians shortened names (like hers from Kathleen to Kathy), so she wanted my brother (Eamonn) and I to have names that couldn't be shortened, an of course that were Irish. I've encountered the same problems with pronounciation as most have, and I completly agree that the perfume STINKS! :) I'm happy to see that there are more out there with the same beautiful name, love to hear from some of you )

My Mum is Irish and named me Ciara after a friend of hers. I grew up in and around London. Once there were two Ciaras in my class at school ! Nobody ever pronounces my name correctly (I am the Kiearra version), which can be frustrating especially after se eral years. People seem to refuse to try and opt for Clare or Siarra. I try and correct them a few times, then give up and just mispronounce their name until they get the point. I read Ciara meant great spear thrower. I was given a bottle of the perfume, hich is absolutely disgusting ! Anyway I like my name alot and I love going to Ireland and finding tacky key chains and mugs with Ciara on them!

I'm writing on behalf of my daughter who loves her name and it's heritage since her great grandmother came from county Cork. But she wants to know why since her name isn't spelled Ciara that she isn't part of this heritage website? We do pronounce her n me "see air a" only because my wife really likes it that way. Also, this great name is being used by people who have no Irish heritage and are making it an "ETHNIC" name along with LaKeesha etc. Just come to America and find out. By the way Ciarrah was orn in Cornwall England, we tried to get to Cork but the Military Doctor's would not let my wife travel her last 6 weeks of pregnacy. Thanks for the Site! it's Great!

Yes, it is true. When thinking of a name for a new baby, the name Ciara is really one of the best (the other best names are Molly, Reilly, and Grady). Any mother would be proud to have a Ciara for her own. I know I am.

My mother wanted to give her daughter a beautiful name so, if she was born less than a beauty, she would always have her name. She heard it meant warrior in Gaelic.... but Ciara was the most beautiful she could find.

When my mother was naming me, she thought it was an unusual name. However upon returning from my first day of school at the age of 4, I proudly announced that there were 4 Ciara's in my class. Looks like a lot of other mothers had the same idea !!! My bestfriend is also a Ciara. Cheers the all the other Ciara's around the world.
