"Star Trek : Insurrection"
Rated PG
Starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner & F. Murray Abraham
CineSight Rating **
Data (Spiner), the U.S.S. Enterprise's resident android, seems to have run amok on a small, out of the way planet, so Captain Picard (Stewart) and the gang rush right over to see what's going on. As it happens, the planet's atmosphere is a veritable fountain of youth. Because of this, certain unscrupulous individuals within Starfleet are wheeling and dealing to forcibly relocate the planet's peaceful inhabitants. They apparently plan to open the galaxy's ultimate health spa!
Our brave and principled Captain feels unable to follow his orders to look the other way, since this violates everything Starfleet is supposed to stand for. So he lays aside his uniform to lead the local revolt against the greedy health club magnates.

The 'Star Trek Movie Formula' still seems to be holding true - the
even-numbered episodes tend to be much better than the odd
numbers. And this is movie number 9. Maybe the biggest problem
with "Insurrection" is that the bad guys are just not that bad. They don't
create enough menace or threat for our heroes to respond to. On the
plus side, the effects are up to the usual high Star Trek standards. At
least we can look forward to the next movie!
