Los Angeles, California

(August, 1981 - July, 1985)

Active Duty AF

After completing my Internship in Houston, I entered the U.S Air Force for the next four years. This service was my repayment to the military for 4 years of Medical School education under the (HPSP) Health Profession Scholarship Program. I entered as a Captain, and was immediately assigned to Los Angeles Air Force Station, California. These were truly the most exciting, memorable, and enjoyable years that I have had during my life.

I attended the School of Aerospace Medicine in San Antonio, Texas shortly after entering Active Duty. With this additional training and experience in Flight Medicine, I was given the responsibility as a Flight Surgeon, for the care of Active Duty Flight Crews. This included logging hours each month in the air on routine training missions. Lucky for me, these trips frequently took me to Alaska, Hawaii, and all over the Los Angeles area.

I frequently flew with the U.S. Coast Guard out of L.A.X. Airport. And talk about a view of Los Angeles, the California Coast, and the Channel Islands. Unforgettable memories!!

Of course I made good friends, and all my family wanted to come out to Los Angeles to visit me. And why not, it is truly a beautiful place to live or visit. A city that seems to spread forever, and has so much to offer, places to see, a night life in West Hollywood that just never ends!!!!

After completing my four years of Active Duty, I decided to return to Georgia, my home state. I accepted a position at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in their Family Practice Residency Program. So off I went, leaving Los Angeles and Hollywood, returning to a relatively small, quiet, and more peaceful style of living (I thought).
