The United States submarines are divided up into several classes and the description of each class is listed below. All of them are nuclear powered. Submarines are a stealthy part of the navy and perform vital functions in the naval war effort. Attack submarines seek out other submarines or surface ships and destroy them with out being compromised. Ohio Class submarines play an important role in the nuclear deterrence policy of the United States. One Ohio Class submarine could simultaneously launch 24 Trident Nuclear missiles with individual war heads. |
