Family values

Life's a two-way street, you never know when you might get hit,
by some car you didn't see or some guy in a crazy fit.
The wife left cause he lost his job and he lost his home,
sits on the curb asking for money and he ain't alone.

Even worse is he's lost his pride and dignity,
but worse than that even is he's lost his family.
The kids went with mom, she had a place to stay,
neither of them really loved daddy anyway.

Living in a box on the corner of Jasper and third,
everybodies against him, the entire world.
Just a freak on the street, clean yourself up and get a life,
so he ended it all in a couple minutes, with a butcher knife.

Now, that poor guy is you, and it's plain to see,
in a matter of minutes you could be out in the street.
So, make up your mind kid, you've got to decide just what to do,
you don't have much time and you must think this through.

No funeral, no one even knew he had died,
no one dared even to care and nobody cried.
The kids are in jail, mom's where dad used to be,
she ain't in a box, and she's making a hell of a lot more money.

She's selling her body to pay for the drugs to fight the pain,
at least that's the way it was before she jumped in front of the train.
No one knows if she did it purposely or if she was high,
that's how the story goes and no one dares even to care enough to cry.

The boys heard the news, took their bed sheets and hung themselves,
they needed a way, to escape the pain and to get away from this hell.
Ten hours later the guard awoke to find them dead,
their bodies were limp, their faces as stiff as the bed.

Now the family's gone, just what went wrong, nobody knows,
you're in this position now, are you just going to go with the flow?
Make up your mind man, you've got to decide just what to do,
you still have some time, life ain't quite through with you.
