71.  John Mullins b. ca 1758 Virginia - d. 25 Feb. 1838 Perry County, Kentucky md Nancy Gentry b. ca 1772 Virginia - d. after 1855 Kentucky on 8 June 1792 Halifax County, Virginia.  John moved to Carter County, Tennessee; then to Russell County, Virginia; then to Floyd County, Kentucky by 1818.  His sons Daniel and Joseph appear in the Russell County, Virginia tax lists 1816-1826 then moved to Perry County, Kentucky.  In his Revolutionary War pension application, John Mullins stated he "was at the Battle of the siege of Charlestown taken prisoner of war by the British and was by the British taken a prisoner of war to England and there kept until peace was made."  And "that he never had it in his power to return to America for 11 years..."  The battle he referred to probably occurred on the 23rd or 24th of April 1780 when the American troops tried a halfhearted night sortie against the British.  The troops from Virginia and the Carolinas attacked the first line of British siege works with bayonets, but were halted and pushed back at the second line.  At the surrender of Charleston, South Carolina, on 12 May 1780, the British captured nearly 5,000 men, almost 400 guns, close to 6,000 muskets, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.  John Mullins was in the 1796 poll tax list along with John Robertson.  John's brother Joshua Mullins md Anna Robinson/Robertson in 1798 in Carter County, Tennessee at the house of John Robertson.  Tennessee became a state in  1796.  In the same year, Carter County was formed from Washington County.  Washington County had been formed in 1777 and originally covered the present state of North Carolina, but by 1790, perhaps earlier, it had been reduced in size and covered the present northeast Tennessee counties of Carter, Washington, and Unicoi.  John and Nancy had the following children:

405.      vi.     Elizabeth "Betsy" Mullins b. ca 1812 VA - d. 1893 KY md John Micajah "Cager" Adam
406.      vii.    Joshua Mullins b. ca 1814 KY - d. 1898 Menifee Co., KY md Mary "Polly" Everage
