The York House
223 Main Street
This frame Italianate house was standing in 1864 when Colonel and Mrs. John Dils deeded this house to their daughter Mrs. J.M. (Augusta) York. The Yorks lived here for many years including the years after they built the York Mansion (now known as the Creekmore Mansion). Judge J.M. York was a prominent man in the community. He served as Judge from 1900-1904. Colonel John Dils was the commander of the 39th Ketnucky Mounted Infantry in the Civil War. This is the earliest unaltered residence in Pikeville. It features a slate mansard roof with metal crenalations, a two story polygonal bay, and overhanging eaves with brackets. The yard and setting have been kept intact by a stone wall on the Main Street facade.
