Pikeville Main Street Program | home
The Multiple Resource Area of Pikeville contains buildings which were important in the development of education, tansportation, and commerce of the Big Sandy Area. From 1850 to 1930, they chronicle the growth of Pikeville from a village to a regional center as the basis of the economy of changed from agriculture to coal. These structures are also the best examples of local variations of national architectural styles, a situation brought about by the isolation, natural hazards, and cyclical nature of an economy based on minerals.
