Hayle Mail July 24, 1914

The past week has been a busy one, the Oceanic arriving on Thursday morning and reported having a fine trip. She was a day late on account of fog. Over forty Cornish People registered at the hotel; most of whom are returning to their respective cities after enjoying a holiday in their native County. The land of “Pasties & Cream”.

About twenty Cornishmen left for Cornwall on the S.S. St Louis and the Oceanic, among them being Mr T.M. Warmington and Family from Deer lodge, Montana, to Carbis Bay. Mr Warmington is the composer of a fine piece of music entitled “The Boys in Blue.” And presented same with a book of anthems and carols to the New York Cornish Association.

We have had ao many weddings of late at the hotel that it is almost become a weekly event. Mr Fred Avery (Hotel Staff) is sailing on the Adriatic on Thursday to wed Miss Annie Eden of West Hartlepool, Fred will be remembered by a number of the Cornish boys as the one who showed them the sights of New York City.

I take this occasion to say that Blakes Star Hotel of 67 Clarkson Street, is now closed and we hope to see our many friends (who for years made the Star their headquarters while in New York), at our new quarters, Cornish Arms Hotel, 441 – 443 West 23rd St.
