I intended to write this week about the start of the New York Cornish Association but I will put it off until I can get more time as we are very busy at present, and my list of names will take up more space than I care to take advantage of.

The Olympic made a very good trip arriving here on Wednesday morning. there were about a dozen Cornish folk on board and they said there was not a ripple on the ocean coming over.

At the last meeting of the Cornish Association there were about fifty present, and I must say it was one of the most enjoyable evenings I have ever experienced.

We have amongst us a Mr Jack Carkeet one time champion wrestler of Cornwall. No doubt many old timers remember him. His last match in Cornwall was way back in 1889 when he threw Phil Hancock, Harry Stone and finished up by beating Jack Pearce. It was a general prize of £8 and Mr Jewell the auctioneer was referee. I think the date and the name are right.

After much coaxing he was prevailed upon to give an address and he related some of the experiences of his travels; and a more interesting man I have never listened to.

Mrs Carkeek who is Scottish by birth and is a proffestional contralto singer, entertained us with some Cornish folksongs, and I really sympathised with the members that were not present for the treat they were missing. Mrs Carkeet begins a forty week tour with a well known opera company 1st of June.

To the cornish in New York that are not members I would say that the Association meets every first and third Saturday of the month at the Cornish Arms.
