This writing finds business in a very unsatisfactory condition. with the war raging in Europe and no decisive battles fought the outlook is not promising in this Country for the business or the working man. Reports come from all parts that plans are being curtailed and operations suspended, with the consequent depression in the labour market. since Great Britain is endeavoring to stop shipments of copper from this Country to Holland and other European neutral ports on the grounds that the final destination will doubtless be Germany, and the further fact that copper is declared by Britain to be "contraband of war", miners as well as other interested in the mining industry will look upon the outcome with much interest. We all hope that peace will speedily be restored and when swords have been laid aside and a satisfactory solution of issues to this terrible slaughter obtained, we expect to hear the wheels of progress hum. Business men anticipate a prosperous era for this Country, which will of necessity find expression with the producers of metals and other commodities and the labour market.
