Directions:

Note: Be sure to use specifically designed fabric paint and/or markers so that the design does not fade or wash away in the laundry. You can buy fabric paints and markers at any craft store.

Decide whether you want to decorate the front or back of the shirt. Slip one or more magazines or catalogs inside the T-shirt and pull the fabric taut over the flat surface. Squirt some paint onto the child's hand and paint the hand with the brush. Press firmly on the shirt, making a handprint. Repeat with other hand or with other children's hands. Let dry. Using the markers, write the name and age of each child under his or her hand. Write a message on the T-shirt, such as "Daddy's Helping Hands" or "A Big Hand for Daddy" or "Hugs for Daddy." You can also use stencils and the markers to make additional designs. With young children, it is best if an adult outlines a design first and then lets the child color it in with the markers.
