6:30 am
“Is everybody alright?” Samuel Willis shouted, holding his freshly broken shoulder. “Oh
God, Sam…” Karl, the bouncer said, “Did you not see what just happened?” Samuel glared at Karl, and
pointed at his shoulder. Karl shook his head, “Man, like twelve people just died!” he shouted, “nobody is
alright!”
“Come on Karl, take it easy,” Samuel said, “We just need to get help…” Karl
laughed, “Yeah, help… I think we’ll all need a bit of that after today…”
The whole pub was in shambles. The red barstools that Samuel liked so much were broken and lying on the floor,
tables were tipped over, blood was everywhere, and twelve bodies were lying on the floor. How the few of them survived the
attack was beyond him, he was just glad his daughter was okay.
Everybody that had been at the bar, had been there since the lock-in the night before. Most had gone home
at about 5 am but about twenty stayed past 5 so they could start their day…
The regular that fired the shotgun stood in the middle of the bar, still holding the gun. “Guys…”
he said with a crack in his voice, “I don’t think we’re going to find help soon…” He pointed
up at the TV in the corner, and everybody turned their heads and watched.
“An unexplainable Phenomenon has plagued Jackson City, Iowa and the surrounding area. There are numerous
counts of citizens all of a sudden turning… cannibalistic and berserk. The death toll continues to rise as we speak,
and…” The newscaster paused for a moment and then spoke again, “We have just
got word that this phenomenon is not only happening locally in Jackson City but is in fact a national epidemic. We have received
word that New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Kansas City, and Tampa to name a few have reported to be experiencing the
same phenomenon. Nobody knows for sure…”
“Oh dear God…” the shotgun holding man said, “My kids live in Kansas City…”
Samuel tried to rub the stress out of his face, but failed and slammed his good hand into the bar. “Okay… well
I think that we need to stay right here… I’m sure that help will come soon!” Karl the bouncer shook his
head, “You think?” he mocked and laughed obnoxiously, “Help… who is going to come here and help us?
We’re not the only ones stuck in the middle of hell! Nobody’s going to think about helping the Shamrock Pub on
Galvin Street while their friends and family are eating each other!” The regular with the shotgun shook his head, “Maybe
we should just calm down Karl…” “Shut up Dane!” Karl shouted, “Nobody needs your advice.”
Dane sighed, “Karl, now’s not the time for that!” he said, “We need to think together and…”
“Yeah you do a great job at that whole ‘togetherness’ idea” Karl said, cutting Dane off, “that
HAS to be the reason your wife left you.” “Hey now, Karl…” Samuel tried to cut in and stop the inevitable
fight that was about to erupt. “Not now, Karl…” Dane said again… “We need to get out of here…”
“And your kids too.” Karl said.
Dane raised the shotgun at Karl and repeated once more. “Not now.” Karl laughed, “What,
you gonna shoot me?”
“Put the gun down Dane!” Samuel shouted, “and Karl, you shut your mouth you‘ve gone
too far and now is NOT the time!” Karl laughed and walked behind the bar. “Good for nothin’ drunks…”
Dane lowered the gun, and shook his head. “Sorry Samuel…” he said, and threw the gun on
the ground. “This is too much for me… plus I‘m a little bit drunk” Samuel shook his head, “Its
okay… just.. You and Karl stay on separate sides of the room.”
“…local law enforcement advises you to stay in your homes, or find safety immediately until
help arrives…”
