ABOVE: X = advantage
Here is my break down...
I said the Colts had a better QB then we do. Peyton Manning was the co-MVP
last year, enough said. I gave an X to the Chargers for Tomlinson.
Tomlinson is
the best running back in the league and the Colts hardly use their running back
and James is usually hurt.
For Wide receivers they have the advantage with
Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.
Tight ends I gave to us and the Colts because of Antonio Gates and Marcus
Pollard, they are both pretty even.
Offensive Tackles and Guards both went to the Colts. Our offensive line is still in bad shape.
Center I gave the Chargers, because we still have Jason Ball. However the
chances of him playing are slim because of contract issues.
I gave the DT
advantage to the Chargers, with Williams and Olshansky we have the power to work
the 3-4.
The Colts have an advantage in the DE slot with Dwight Freeney.
With one of the worst defenses in the league last year the Colts did not get
any more linebackers. I give the linebackers to the Chargers. We still have Edwards and Leber, and we got Foley and Godfrey.
Cornerbacks I gave the advantage to us,
with our new secondary coach and new defensive coach expect big plays from Jammer and Davis.
Safeties I gave the advantage to the Colts, we don't have
enough talent at safety, maybe next year.
Kicker and Punter go to the Colts
hands down. Vanderjagt was perfect last year in field goals, Hunter Smith is way
better then who ever we decided to start as our punter.
On paper the Colts have the advantage, so that's why my prediction is:
Colts-- 35
Chargers-- 17
-The Colts powerful offense just tore up our young defense. The Colts poor defense did allow us
17 points.
Score:
Colts -- 21
Chargers -- 17
Offensive MVP -- The entire offensive line (no sacks allowed)
Defensive MVP -- Steve Cooper (4 tackles, 2 assist's, 1 sack)
Big Bust -- Nate Kaeding 1-2 FG's (Maybe it was first game
jitters)
Big Surprise -- Jesse Chatman
Player that should be signed -- Wes Welker (#16) KR
Player that should be cut -- Hand (#91) DE
Wrap up -- The 3-4 defense looks great we were getting a
lot of pressure on the QB. Dingle was out of this game so that did hurt us a
lot. Even though had no interceptions. We did get 5 sacks. The defense in
general did a good job,
even the backs-up held the colts to only 21 points. Drew Brees looked sharp, and
why not? His Offensive line was man handling any poor DE that tried to touch
Drew. The Line gave up no sacks and helped Chatman and the running backs rush
for 95 yards and a TD. Caldwell and crew also looked great, made the hard
catches and got some good yards after the catch. The specal teams played a
little worse then I thought. Kaeding 1 for 2 but it was his first NFL game. Mike
Scifres had an OK game with 6 punts and the long was 47 yards.
Just one last thing... Who said we would have 17 points? I want
you to email me right now and tell me. You heard it hear first on The Storm.
