Harvey Haddix
Starting Pitcher | Pittsburgh Pirates
Pitching He has the ability to coax groundballs, which helps him succeed. Haddix can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting For a lefty, his move to first base is average at best, and he has a tendency to forget about runners at second, thereby creating opportunities to swipe third. Haddix is nothing special in the field. Haddix is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Haddix has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Pittsburgh Pirates have been known to use Haddix as a pinch-runner on occasion.
