North Carolina "Star" Canteen
Our newest additional to our well known line of authentic canteens, this represents the star embossed canteens believed to have been manufactured in North Carolina and used by some Confederate regiments, however their exact origin and use still remains a mystery. An original can be seen on display in the Visitors Center at the Gettysburg National Military Park, and examples have also been dug from the Confederate lines at Kennesaw Mountain. The embossed six pointed star is believed to have been an attempt to strengthen the body, just as the concentric rings of the "bullseye" canteen. The body of this reproduction is of hot dipped tin tin, spouts are of rolled sheet tin. Each canteen comes with your choice of sling, either unbleached linen or tick stripe cotton. Leather slings can also be ordered separately for an additional charge (Item # E-056). Stoppers are cork, and are secured with a jack chain that is looped around the sling keeper, no hole is punched in the sling keeper. These canteens come covered with brown jean wool from Ben Tart or Family Heirloom Weavers.
