| Avon Street, Bath, Somerset |

|
Alfred "Harry" Dainton & Hannah Dainton lived in Avon Street in 1891. Alfred was originally from Bradford-on-Avon
in Wiltshire. He moved to Bath, Somerset where he met a local Bath girl, Hannah Rachel Hardick, and married her on the 17
May 1877. It was not a happy marriage. Hannah was a heavy drinker and sold her childrens clothes to buy gin. Harry was a violent
man and beat Hannah one night after finding her in bed with another woman. Harry murdered Hannah in September of 1891
after a violent row and heavy drinking. Harry was later hanged for the crime in Shepton Mallet Goal in December of that
same year. The children were put in orphanages and later the boys were shipped to Canada. Their second son, Charles W. Dainton,
married Ellen Nelson in Sault Ste. Marie in Canada in 1901. They had a daughter named Gertrude Mae Dainton - who later married
Alric Miller. The eldest son, Alfred Henry Dainton, worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad.

Alfred "Harry" Henry Dainton signed his name to several pre-trial documents, which were used at his trial. Harry could
both read and write as he was a skilled stone mason and not a general labourer.
