Thomas W. Moore was born about 1803 in Georgia and died sometime after 1874, when the last entry was made in his Texas Revolution pension file. He is thought to have married twice, having only one child by each wife. According to his Texas Revolution pension application, he came to Texas in 1827; however, it was more likely in 1829 as shown in Stephen F. Austin's Register where he is listed as having a wife Nancy and no children. His son Nathaniel was born 1830-1831. Thomas's first wife died 1836-1839 after which he married Mathilress Yates. They moved back to Clark County, Arkansas, where their daughter Marinda was born in 1840. Tax records show Thomas still in Clark County in 1845 and 1846.
Thomas Moore and his two children appear to have returned to Texas by 1854 when Nathaniel married in Travis County. Thomas seems not to have stayed too long in any one place. Perhaps this had something to do with his occupation shown in the 1860 census (when he was living with a niece)--"Sportsman," a more genteel term than the more commonly used "gambler".
