Johannesburg/Pretoria:

* Transitions & Transgressions in an Age of Multiculturalism. ICLA 16^th International Conference - this is quite a prestigious conference at the University of South Africa in Pretoria (about 30 miles north of Johannesburg). It runs from 13-18 August 2000. Deadline for abstracts: 15 September 1999.

* Relocating Literature - Africa and India. Conference runs from 10 - 13 September 1999, at the University of the Witwatersrand (Daniel's university).

* City, Town and Country: A Sense of Place in Medieval and Early Modern Studies Conference runs from 3 - 6 September 2000, and is jointly organised by the University of the Witwatersrand (Daniel's university) and the Rand Afrikaans University. Deadline for abstracts: 29 October 1999.
