Letterman Settles with Peach Lady
March 7, 1997 David Letterman has settled a suit brought by a woman caught on tape eating a rather juicy peach at a tennis tournament. New Yorker Jane Bronstein, fifty-five, was caught on camera eating the peach while attending the U.S. Open back in 1995. Letterman featured the footage--showing the heavy-set Bronstein with juice dribbling down her chin--on his late-night show seven times over fifteen days in September of 1995. He even projected Bronstein's image on the Sony Jumbotron in Times Square in an effort to track her down and invite her on the show. Bronstein filed the suit in February of 1996, claiming that Letterman violated her privacy and subjected her to ridicule. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
