THE WOMAN OF MY DREAMS

I got up the other morning
& got up out of bed
with visions of my distant lands
still floating in my head.

Trying to open my eyes
to see the new day here.
Glancing out the window,
the skies are starting to clear

All the rain is gone
as the dark clouds part and drift.
It looks like the entire world
got fresh and clean facelift.

The sun is starting to rise
as the birds call out to me,
singing the same ol' timeless song
of love and destiny.

So I close my eyes and take a breath
and think about the day;
great new things to do,
enlightening things to say,

exciting people to meet,
brand new places to go;
gaining so much throughout the day
with nothing much to show

but countless smiles and hearty laughs
and memories held so close.
The hours and hours we spend alone
are the ones that mean the most.

Holding you so close,
oh so tightly in my arms.
I'd be happy here with you forever
keeping you from harm

You always seem to make me smile
and know the things to say
to make the rain move on along
and bring sunshine to my day.

Enjoying each and every moment
like it was our last,
only trying to enjoy the present,
not thinking about the past.

And as I sat there lost in my thoughts
while the birds continued to sing,
I heard a familiar noise that sounded
like my alarm clock start to ring.

I opened my eyes and sat straight up
realizing you were just a dream,
I'm right back to my same old world
where no one hears me scream.

Back to my world of being alone,
drowning in the tears I weep
Wanting to be back there with you again
so I drift back off to sleep.

I see you in my dreams each night,
at least for a little a while
But I'm thankful for what time we have
to make each other smile

You're the sunshine in my day
You make all the clouds disappear
I just wish I could reach out and grab you
and pull you over here

to be with me and make me smile
and help fill in the seams
of the book I'm writing just for you
called 'The Woman of My Dreams'
