The tombstone for Lee incorrectly shows his birth year.
He was born on 1/7/1879 and lived to be a young man.
Lee was the son of D.A. and N.A. Scates.
This is correctly shown on the tombstone.

Lee's older sister was Bertha Scates. Bertha wrote and published a poem upon his death. A copy of the poem is in the bible:

"In Memory of Lee Scates In his resting place we laid Lee, When the flowers began to bloom, In the Weaver Chapel grave

They laid him in a cold and lonely tomb. Oh! We miss him, how we miss him And we'll miss his winsome ways We will miss him in our classes We will miss him in our plays.

Loving friends around him gather As his spirit passed away, Ere' he sought that home in heaven, In that land of perfect day.

For too lonely was our Brother For this cold and bitter life. Although we weep for him He is free from worldly strife.

Friends and parents do not weep Lee is an Angel now He is free from pain and sorrow With love's star upon his brow.

We love Lee, yes we loved him But the Angels loved him more And they have sweetly called him To yonder shining shore.

The golden gate stood open Angels voice said come And with fare-well unspoken He calmly entered home.

Oh! friends and parents cease your weeping Lee is on earth no more To God for eternal keeping His prayers with us do part."

Bertha wrote in her bible that Lee was age 20 years, 3 months, and 20 days. Sadly, Bertha herself died in 1905. Glenn Milligan
