You can use http://www.google.com to do searches on any holiday
easily and find countless websites on the pagan origins of the
holidays. Most Christians just think it's funny or cute that it is
pagan and associated with festivals to idols/false gods. Islam,
Judaism, Wicca/Pagans use these things as proof that Christendom is
not the true religion, that their beliefs do not come from the Bible
but from pre-Christian pagan religions especially Rome and Babylon,
etc.
Pagans/Wiccans use this to say theirs is the true religion and they
are older (the latter fact is true...they did it first) while
Judaism and the Muslim religion (and Jehovah's Witnesses) use this
to say that Christendom fell away from Bible teachings and adopted
pagan teachings that came from demon inspired religion.
Of course, the Bible backs these issues up. The tree custom is
ancient and was condemned as heathen in Jeremiah chapter 10 of the
Bible. No where in the scripture does the Bible tell us to observe
Jesus' birthday or his resurrection. However, he does give pointed
instructions on keeping the remembrance of his death as do the
apostles.
The Bible continually says not to fall away from Bible teaching,
that the nations actual worship demons not God and we are not to
take up their teachings and traditions.
1 Corinthians 10:20 No; but I say that the things which the nations
sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I do not
want YOU to become sharers with the demons. 21 YOU cannot be
drinking the cup of Jehovah and the cup of demons; YOU cannot be
partaking of "the table of Jehovah" and the table of demons. 22
Or "are we inciting Jehovah to jealousy"? We are not stronger than
he is, are we?
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers.
For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what
sharing does light have with darkness? 15 Further, what harmony is
there between Christ and BeŽli·al? Or what portion does a faithful
person have with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement does God's
temple have with idols? For we are a temple of a living God; just as
God said: "I shall reside among them and walk among [them], and I
shall be their God, and they will be my people." 17 "`Therefore get
out from among them, and separate yourselves,' says Jehovah, `and
quit touching the unclean thing'"; "`and I will take YOU in.'"
18 "`And I shall be a father to YOU, and YOU will be sons and
daughters to me,' says Jehovah the Almighty."
2 Timothy 4:3 For there will be a period of time when they will not
put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own
desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their
ears tickled; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth,
whereas they will be turned aside to false stories.
John 4:23 Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the
true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for,
indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. 24
God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit
and truth."
John 17:17 Sanctify them by means of the truth; your word is truth.
18 Just as you sent me forth into the world, I also sent them forth
into the world. 19 And I am sanctifying myself in their behalf, that
they also may be sanctified by means of truth.
For us to gain eternal life and be accepted by God, our worship to
him must be done in truth, in agreement with the Bible only.
You can also do research in encyclopedias as they have this
information. The World Book ones are really detailed usually. You
can use the public library to check them.
