Ultimate 8-Ball
3 of 5 Stars

The first thing that attracted me to this
demo was the size. With 30 meg demos becoming the norm, it was
refreshing to see one weigh in at a
mere 3.15 MB's. The second was I
enjoy the game in real life. So what
the hell, I took 10 minutes of my day
to see what this Demo was all about.

Graphics- 4

Sound- 2

Interface- 3

Fun Factor- 3

3d Support- D3D

Size-
3.15
The demo allows you to play one game
of 6-Ball against a bald bruiser they
call, "Ed Case". Six-Ball is just like the
game of 9-Ball. You must sink the all
the balls in exact order to win. You have
the choice of software or Direct 3D
mode. Software actually looked okay but the accelarated mode added alot of
detail.

That is why the highest score went to the
graphics. Ed is nicely drawn, the jukebox
has good lighting, the surface of the
table looks great, and overall it gives you
a realistic bar-room feal. Sounds on the
other hand are not so great. In fact they
are hardly there. The most annonying one
being Ed cracking his neck all the time.

The interface gets the job done but is
repetitive at times. You have full control
of choosing balls, english (spin), raising or
lowering your cue, adjusting angles,
adjusting views, and taking your actual shot. All controls are done via the mouse.
Full version will have joystick control.

Gameplay I found to be a bit hard, even
on the Pre-Set Easy Mode. Maybe it was
just me but I think the real-deal is easier.
Getting the right angle on the ball seemed
difficult. Usually after your one miss, Ed
clears the table. I have played 10 times
and won once. Overall it not a terrible demo and damn it's only 3 megs. I still
would recommend you give it a shot. And heres a tip-Throw in some good
rock music into your PC's cd-player during game. It adds to the overall
effect.
