Xtom3d
3 of 5 Stars
The 80's brought of us many things:
Parachute pants, breakdancing, Miami Vice. Okay they all weren't
good things but the arcade shooters
were, "Awesome". I remember pumping many a quarter into galaga, zaxxon, defender, and xevious. This demo has elements of these classics.

Even though Xtom3d is graphically superior to those games, the gameplay isn't as fun. Using OpenGL this is a very nice looking game. The clouds, buildings, landscpape, and most ships, all look good. This demo also is lightning fast. Better have your reflexes in high gear or you won't last long. Still something was missing. The controls were very jerky. I tried both keyboard and gamepad and they felt the same. The ship flies on one plane, meaning when you press "up", the ship doesnt dive it just moves forward on the screen, getting smaller. The weapons and power-ups were all very basic. You do have a choice of 2 ships, so there is a little variety. You
get to play one campaign and use

continues. This makes it a very easy demo to beat. If you really need to see the GL graphics then download. If you want classic shooter gameplay then fire up MAME and play the real things.
