Secretary general of AMARC

The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO). AMARC is a network that facilitates cooperation, exchange and communication between community radio stations around the world with the perspective to democratize communication.

AMARC has existed as a global movement for 18 years, and as an international NGO for 13 years.

AMARC is currently recruiting for the position of Secretary General.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Secretary General is responsible for the coordination of all organizational activities. His or her mandate is to administer AMARC affairs and activities as defined by the International Board of Directors and in line with the general direction given by the General Assembly.

The person hired should be very experienced and have the necessary skills and dynamic nature to face the numerous challenges presented by AMARC. He or she will have recognized skills in project conception and in organizational management in the field of international cooperation.

Requirements

University degree in a related discipline (for example: communication, social sciences)

Knowledge in the fields of communications, human rights and community media

Experience in participatory communications

Good knowledge of North-South relations

Experience in organizational management and personnel management

Experience in fundraising through international and governmental organizations

Experience in planning and programming activities as well as in project conception and follow-up

Independent worker in the conception and execution of tasks

The working languages of AMARC are French, English, and Spanish: the candidate must master two of these three languages, and have a good knowledge of the third

Great facility in verbal and written communication

Disposed at international travel

Working conditions:

Four-year contract in Montreal, Canada

Transfer of files as of November 1st, 2001

Official start date in January 2002

Trial period of six-months

Starting salary: $45,000-$50,000Cnd ($30,000-33,000US)
