Coordinator (Human Rights Department)

A world-wide trade union organisation of education personnel, with 24 million members in 155 countries and territories, is looking for a Coordinator to fill the vacancy in the Human Rights Department at headquarters in Brussels, Belgium..

The Human Rights Department carries out and co-ordinates activities in the field of Human and Trade Union Rights and Equality issues and prepares policy proposals in these areas; identifies infringements of international conventions and undertakes legal and other actions; follows-up political, socio-economic, trade union developments as they impact on human and trade union rights and equality; serves as the secretariat of the women's committee of the Executive Board.

The holder of the position, will, in close co-operation with the Deputy General Secretary, assist in the development and implementation of policy and programme as approved by the Executive Board.

The holder of the position:

1. Monitors the human and trade union rights situation in the regions, in particular as they affect EI member organisations.

2. Assists with the development of campaigns to support human rights issues with special emphasis on racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, sexism and fundamentalism.

3. Prepares draft submissions to the ILO, governments and member organisations concerning human and trade union rights violations.

4. Assists with the development of materials to be used in human and trade union rights education in member organisations.

5. Assists with the preparation of conferences and workshops on issues dealing with human and trade union rights.

6. Assists with the development of an urgent action network among member organisations and ITS's.

7. Prepares a triennial report on human and trade union rights concerning teachers and education workers.

8. Develops programmes and activities in the area of child labour.

9. Undertakes other duties as requested.
