Associate Director

Forefront: A Global Network of Grassroots Human Rights Advocates

All over the world, in groundbreaking ways and often at great personal risk, grassroots activists with passion, commitment, creativity and vision are taking a stand for human rights and fighting for social justice in their communities. Forefront is an international network of young human rights activists from 30 different countries who have been recognized by the Reebok Human Rights Award.

Forefront protects and supports human rights defenders by providing training and technical assistance, helping activists respond to crises, and fostering direct exchange of strategies and information among activists. Forefront
also responds with urgent actions when activists are at-risk and campaigns for the release of network members who have been imprisoned for their work.

Forefront seeks an Associate Director to join a small team and contribute to all aspects of the organization's development, with a particular focus on managing information and coordinating urgent actions and campaigns. The
Associate Director will report to the Director.

Responsibilities of the Associate Director will include:

· Providing one-on-one technical assistance to network partners who request information, contacts, research, help with special projects and other assistance;
· Researching and distributing information to network partners about institution-building, advocacy, fund raising, working with the media and other aspects of human rights work through the organization's web site and
an Action Brief newsletter; 
· Managing the organization's information, including and internal and web-based database of resources and opportunities for activists; 
· Coordinating Forefront's campaigns and urgent actions on behalf of prisoners of conscience and at-risk activists, including an ongoing campaign for the release of Tibetan nun Phuntsog Nyidron;
· Coordinating our volunteer network of translators; and  Assisting with fund raising and other organizational development tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the following qualifications:
· Fluency in French or Spanish
· 3-5 years experience in human rights and development 
· Experience working with a grassroots campaign
· Experience managing interns
· Proven project management skills, including organizing, prioritizing and completing multiple tasks on time
· Ability to work as part of a team, but also to function independently
· Excellent technology and information management skills, including experience using databases
· High level of attention to detail
· Commitment to the mission of Forefront
· Willingness to do one's own administrative tasks and go beyond defined roles
· Degree in relevant field
· Immediate availability

Preferred qualifications:
· Fluency in other languages
· Master degree in related field
· Experience with a start-up organization working as part of a small team
· Regional expertise in Africa or Asia
· Entrepreneurial energy and commitment
