Positions Available For Dynamic, Motivated & Committed People As Assistant directors And Unit Co-ordinators for India Centre For Human Rights And Law .

The India Centre for Human Rights and Law was founded to defend the rights of the underprivileged, minority groups and of those affected by environmental degradation and retrogressive economic and development policies in particular the rights of women, children, dalits, indigenous people, prisoners and labour. Our main activities include documentation, training, campaigns, investigations, publications and legal aid.

We are looking for people for key positions within the organisation, who have drive and commitment, who are capable of working semi autonomously and who will help build the Centre. Knowledge about human rights issues both nationally and internationally, fluency in English and alteast one Indian language, computer and writing skills are a must.

The Centre needs people with prior experience in the following areas:

1) Documentation - Human Rights:
Profile:
- To co-ordinate the overall running of the documentation centre Organising meetings, Films and discussions on human rights and law
- Helping set up and establish documentation centres on human rights around the country
- Networking and reaching out to people around the country on human rights issues
- We are particularly looking for people who have good people management skills and a passion for the subject.
- Preference will be given to persons trained in library science.

2) Child Rights
Profile:
The child rights unit focuses on children who are victims of sexual abuse and violence. Work would involve training, campaigning and responding to cases of child abuse. Preference will be given to people with a good understanding of the laws related to children in India and abroad...

3) Rural Law Network
Profile:
A senior person familiar with the social movements in the country capable of co-ordinating the setting up of human rights and law units (Need not be a lawyer). A person who is well acquainted with the law relating to the Land Acquisition Act and rural issues would be given preference. 4) Human Rights Monitoring
Profile:
Work involves monitoring of human rights atrocities, reporting to international and national human rights organisations and setting up legal aid centres. Need not be a lawyer but should have an understanding of the human rights movements in India and contacts with various human rights groups.

5) Co-ordinator for National Conference on Human Rights, Social Movements, Globalisation and the Law: Needed urgently for Six Months a co-ordinator to oversee and execute the planning of a National Workshop on Human Rights, Social Movements and the Law. The Conference is schedule to be held in December 2000.

The Centre also serves as an umbrella organisation for independent projects and small groups who have similar objectives as us but do not have the infrastructure or the space to function from. Anyone wishing to do so can send his or her proposal to the Centre.

Note: The Centre does not undertake to raise the funds for the project.
