The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is committed to life-sustaining emergency relief, community service programs and development projects that rebuild traumatized lives and communities after the devastation of war and other complex and natural disasters.  UMCOR’s mandate is to assist persons in need, in ways that advance the dignity of those persons without regard to religion, race, nationality, or gender.  As the humanitarian aid and development unit of UMCOR’s parent organization, the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church (GBGM-UMC), UMCOR has funded and implemented projects in over 100 countries worldwide.  UMCOR’s activities cover a range of sectors, including health, education, economic development, agriculture, psychosocial rehabilitation, and shelter/infrastructure.

UMCOR is recruiting an intern to work 20 hours/week for the fall semester. The position is located in Washington, DC and is currently an unpaid position.

PURPOSE:

The UMCOR-NGO Intern will provide program, administrative and research support to the Program Officers for the Balkan, NIS, and Africa/Caribbean Regions.  This position demands excellent organization, communication, research, editing and writing skills, as well as experience in office administrative functions and Microsoft and Internet applications.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

? Reviewing and editing donor reports to ensure that the information presented is clear and consistent with donor guidelines.
? Reviewing and editing standard donor proposals and provide feedback concerning format consistency and clarity.
? Assisting with updates to the UMCOR web site
? Creating and/or updating Fact Sheets for UMCOR field offices for distribution to donors and other interested parties.
? Responding to or initiating communications (e-mail, fax etc.) between the field offices and DC headquarters.
? Communications between donor organization and UMCOR field offices
? Prepare documents for procurement and shipment of pharmaceuticals.
? Provide logistical and general administrative support for DC and field offices
? Information gathering/research on potential donors
? Assisting with public relations activities
? Gathering information for the preparation of  the UMCOR-NGO Annual Report
? Assist in creating NGO development materials for field offices

Experience:

? Strong written and verbal English skills
? Experience working in an international context
? Experience working with non profit organizations/NGOs
? Experience in proposal development
? Experience working in a multi cultural environment.
? Strong Analytical skills
