TREATY
Our sweet "Dolly" passed over the Rainbow Bridge at 4 this morning. (July
18, 2004)
As some of
you remember, she was the one we took in over three years ago who had suffered
from founder at her previous home. That condition led to a myriad of other
problems including heat seizures and hypoglycemia. Two evenings ago she
quit eating and starting going downhill. With the help of Banamine, we
were able to keep her out of pain her last day here. I was with her at
3 this morning, and we knew the end was very near. She laid down for the
last time under my cousins window,
(In the "birthing
pen" where we were keeping her close),
and at 4
a.m. the other horses called out and told us of her passing.
"Auntie"
Doll will be greatly missed by all here. Our grief is only tempered by
our knowledge that she is no longer in any distress and she now runs on
perfect legs as she once did, on lush green pastures on the other side
of the Rainbow Bridge.....
Update:
(7-18-05)
It's been a year and we miss You so much
and hope you are happy and PAIN-FREE and have all the green pastures and
love and health you did not have here on Earth....
Tell 'Mandy' we miss her, too!

Talk
about GREAT MEMORIES.....
Yes, We finally found out who
did this "Work of Art" I have admired most of my life!
ROBERT WESLEY AMICK
1879-1969
Robert Wesley Amick was born
in Canon City, Colorado amidst cowboys, pro- spectors and Indians. He studied
law at Yale and practiced law for two years before becoming an artist.
He worked as a printmaker, illustrator and painter. His paintings of landscapes,
horses and western life (his childhood) became so popular that several
were printed for the public school system.
Born in a log cabin in Canon City, Colorado, Robert Amick became an illus- trator of Western subjects, painter, printmaker, commercial artist and teacher. He grew up in the Colorado cattle country during the 1880s amidst cowboys, Ute and Sioux Indians, homesteaders, and prospectors-"all the characters on the western stage " (Samuels).
Amick earned a law degree from Yale University while also taking art courses. After practicing law for two years in Ohio, he became a full-time artist, taking private lessons and studying at the Art Students League. He did illustrations for "Harpers," "Scribner's," "The American," and other publications but was most comfortable with subjects from the life of his background.
His western scenes of brilliantly
colored landscapes with horses and riders became quite popular, and twelve
of them were reproduced as prints for the public schools. He spent much
of his career living near New York City in Greenwich, Connecticut where
he was, according to a family member, the founder of the Art Society of
Greenwich in 1927. Given the circumstances of his background, it is likely
he was in Arizona before 1940, but that is not proven.
Please
EMAIL me if you can tell me ANY other INFO on the Artist and his paintings,
especially
of this Famous 1940's?
Painting
immortilized by Rolling Rock Beer and others, thanks!
