Q. I've heard that Discus need special water conditions. Is this true?

A. Not really. All you NEED to do is keep the water clean and pure. The
best/easiest way to do this is to use a filter in the tank and change some
water (about 25%) at least once a week. In order to breed them you do need
'special water conditions'.

Q. I'm thinking of putting some Discus in my 'Community Tank' I have some
Danios, Barbs, Gouramies, and Tetras. Should I do it?

A. Not a good idea. To say the least, the fish you have would be unhappy
at Discus temperatures and vice-versa.

very experienced Discus Breeders and Hobbyists, or you can send me an E-Mail.

Q. What are the special points if any that I should look out for when choosing
my new Discus?

A. Always look at the fish front on and check that it is not sharp or hollow
at the front. Discus should be broad between the eyes. NEVER buy a fish that
looks as if it has a grey/black overtone, or hangs to the back corner of
a tank when the others are being fed. Ask the seller to feed the fish so
you can watch for this.

Q. I bought 3 nice Discus two weeks ago and now one is all dark and hanging
in the back corner of the tank. I know it's not doing well because I never
see it eat or move from its corner. What can I do?

A. Your hiding fish is most probably being bullied. I would go out and buy
3 more Discus. They are Shoaling fish and need to be kept in groups. I never
have less than 6 together unless they are a breeding pair.
