DJ
Physical description
DJ is a German Shepard mix aproximately 20 years of age. He is light brown in color with black markings. His markings include a black stripe running down the middle of his face, a black tip on his tail, 3 black paws (both hind paws and his right front), and a large black "saddle" on his back. His eyes are a light green. The tip of his left ear droops forward like Colleen's and Hunter's while his right pricks straight up. In cano-sapien form DJ is comparable in size and stature to Hunter, a little less than six feet tall and of average build.
Personal description
DJ is part German Shepard, part who knows what else... and ALL country. He speaks with a slight accent, not quite a southern drawl, but not quite anything else either. He is mechanically inclined and often teams up with Exile to make emmergency repairs to vehicles and equipment in order to bail the team out of a tight spot. He also delights in making life difficult for the bad guys by "adjusting" their stuff. DJ has a keen ability to look at controls, dials, etc. and figure out the operation of many vehicles and machines. When confronted with a mechanical problem his usual response is "how hard can it be?" His big weakness is computers. He has great difficulty understanding them and they often get the better of him. DJ doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit" and will "keep on truckin'" against nearly impossible odds. He has a lot of leadership potential but just doesn't see it in himself and is much more comfortable taking orders from somebody else. He will only take charge in the most desperate situations where there is nobody else to turn to for direction. Being a country boy, DJ is active, playful, and boisterous. He enjoys getting out, being rowdy, and just having a good time, but he also knows when it's time to be serious. In his off duty hours he enjoys listening to country music, shooting pool, playing cards, and of course hanging out with his fellow Rovers. He is eager to please and always willing to learn new things. DJ is a fierce fighter and when a team mate is in trouble he will take on huge cano-mutants and other opponents with strength significantly greater than his own. This has gotten him hurt more than once. He is one who loves life and tries to live it to the fullest. The idea of using leathal force is very unattractive to him, he favors laser weapons with "stun" settings, allowing him to shoot an enemy without killing. He is a sure-shot and his aim with lasers and conventional fire arms never fails. Thus far DJ has not demonstrated a super power like those posessed by the others, but his skills as a mechanic, driver, pilot, and marksman more than make up. DJ is honorable and loyal, both to the Road Rovers and to his master Keith Stephens with whom he shares a specail bond. Friendship means a great deal to DJ and he is always there to listen and provide a shoulder to cry on when a friend is hurting.
History
DJ got a poor start in life. He was abandoned as a small puppy. His mother's owners took him out and left him in a field near a truck stop parking lot. Shortly after he was left the sky let loose with a pouring rain storm and the pup was quickly soaked to the skin. He was rescued when a young trucker named Keith Stephens heard his crys and went to his aid. Kieth wrapped the puppy in a towell and fed him milk that he'd warmed by laying the bowl on his engine. That first night Keith spent his every spare minute nursing the pup. It was at some point that rainy night on his way up the San Joquin Valley that Keith decided to name the dog DJ, after his best friend who'd been killed in a tragic accident a few years earlier. As little DJ grew so did the bond between him and Keith. He became the trucker's constant companion, riding along on Keith's runs. It was on just such a run one dark night on a lonely stretch of highway that the truck was hijacked by General Parvo's men and DJ was seperated from his master for the first time since they met. DJ was captured and taken to a secret mountain warehouse, seemingly destined to become a cano-mutant. He mannaged to escape when a lab tech opened his cage to prepare him for mutation. DJ made for the woods and quickly eluded his pursuers. His escape was almost for nothing, after days of wandering in the woods he was struck by a speeding car wile trying to cross a road. After limping away and collapsing in a field he was spotted by Exile as the Road Rovers flew over head. He was taken to RRMC where Colleen provided him with much needed medical attention. Once he was well enough to "talk" Shag spoke with him and translated his story for the Master. The Master ran a quick computer check and with what Shag had told him in mind, decided DJ would make an excellent Road Rover. After another conversation with Shag DJ joined the team. On his first mission he was instrumental in shutting down a factory where Parvo was building high-tech weapons. (The truck Keith was driving was loaded with electronic supplies needed in the construction of these weapons.) After the victory against Parvo DJ was reunited with his master and now when not on shift at mission control he can almost always be found in his normal dog form riding shot gun with his old friend. DJ remains an active and loyal member of the Road Rovers team.
Current Status
Though still inexperienced and new to the Road Rover operation, DJ is second in charge of the Road Rover mechanical department, working directly under Exile. His natural skill with machines and tools has suited him well to this task and he handles a great deal of the vehicle maintainence and repairs.
Notes
When relaxing off duty (but still on shift at mission control) DJ normally wears blue jeans, a grey t-shirt, work boots and a belt with a brass buckle depicting the Road Rovers insignia. Sometimes he'll supplement this with a flannel jacket and a cow boy hat or baseball cap. He carries a folding knife in a sheath on his belt when out of uniform and in a specail pocket inside his right boot when in uniform. He is rarely seen without his collar, he wears his civilian pet tag on the collar with his Road Rover tag as sort of a good luck charm. He favors small hand held pistol type weapons as opposed to the larger rifle style armament often carried by the others.
