THE OROVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1969

THE OROVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1969

The first Oroville High School on Bird Street - 1892.

The second Oroville High School at Robinson Street and Second Avenue - 1904.

The third and current location at the corner of Orange and Bridge Streets. The main building at Oroville High School stood there from 1918 until it was torn down in early 1966 - our Freshman year.

The 50th Oroville High School Reunion for the Class of 1969 held on October 19, 2019 at the Gold Country Casino is now history! We all had a great time! See the Oroville High School Class of 1969 Facebook page for photos and info regarding that historic event!!!!

Hi! It's now been more than 50 years since more than 260 students graduated from Oroville High School in Oroville, California on June 6, 1969.

It's been a long time. In September 2008, since it had been such a long time, it was decided to build this web site about our class.

We have added a few photos of the school and class and also provided a list of the graduates. We've listed information regarding our Reunions. Group photographs from all 9 of our Reunions are displayed here. We've even thrown in a bit of trivia about 1969. Should you be a member of the class, or know of a member of the class and have information regarding a class member to add to this website, please e-mail Larry Matthews at the address below.

Additionally, there is an IN MEMORIAM section in honor of those classmates who have passed away.

We now have a link to all OHS Class of 69 Senior Portraits. It's located in the "List of Graduates" section just before the list of names. These are all of the Senior Portraits that were included in the OHS 69 NUGGET YEARBOOK.

We are so amazed at how much time has gone by so swiftly! This web site promises to be a continuing effort so keep checking back!

Thanks! Larry Matthews

1. OHS CLASS OF 69's 45TH REUNION!

All who attended the 45th Reunion had a great time. As before, it was a joint reunion with the OHS Class of 1970. It was on September 20, 2014 at Gold Country Casino. It was well attended by around 100 classmates and guests. It was one of my favorite reunions. We expect a much greater crowd for the 50th Reunion in the Fall of 2019.

Additional OHS 69/70 Reunion photos that were taken that night by Scott Roberts and Larry Matthews can be accessed at:

2. OHS CLASS OF 69's 40TH REUNION!

The 40th Reunion was a blast! At least I and many others thought so. It was on Oct. 17, 2009 at the Gold Country Casino. It was a joint reunion with OHS Class of 1970. There were 170 classmates with their guests and, between the good food, great friendships that were renewed, wonderful music and great enthusiasm. I got to meet classmates I had not seen in 40 years. My thanks to the Reunion Committee and all those who attended.

For additional OHS 69/70 Reunion photos that were taken by Scott Roberts that night you can access them at:

The "O" on Table Mountain - May 1969. During Spirit Week, the "O" was changed into a "69" by classmates Bob Groh, Mel Boren, Larry Johnson, Mike Scroggins, Richard Brazil, Bob Watkins, Jim Lundergreen, Steve Kern, Robert Lane, Hal Dahlmeier, Rick Everett, Mark Black, Barry Duensing, and maybe a few more.

3. REVISITING THE CAMPUS

The Boy's Gym in January 2009. One of the buildings that has only had minor changes in 40 years.

I had not visited the campus for probably 20 years but on the evening of October 8, 2008 fellow classmate Scott Roberts and I took a walk around. We noted that the "T" or Temporary Buildings, that turned out to be permanent for 40 years, have finally been replaced with a nice, new building. Also, the Block "O" Bench is still there. But the eastern part of it is almost covered by the hillside they installed for the new building. Also, the old tree inside the bench is now twice as big as it was 40 years ago. It was very nice to revisit the campus.

(Block "O" Bench photo by Sandy Smith. November 2011)

Scott and I revisited the campus again on July 25, 2012. Here are a few photos from that visit.
