Won't turn on and power supply

Probably someone entered the service mode and

Hopefully it wasn't lowered to zero even though the set shuts off at
a higher value (6-9)

The best thing for RCA chassis is to change the
eeprom. Try to get eeprom that is already programmed. This saves a
lot of time, other wise you have to program the set. Make sure that
you get the right eeprom because you won`t get all of the menu. Make
sure you double check eeprom. You can get the setting off one that is
working or go to teckweb. so double check the eeprom.

There is a lot of problems
that the eeprom cause. From snowy pic audio to shinking.
OK first thing to do is resolder tuner sheild
there are about 21 spots, if this helps go. Then some time you can
get power up take the safety cap put another cap on top of this one
will let you power up. Then get into menu write all info down, change
hoz. setting to 11 this should let the set power up, remove the extra
safety cap. Then make sure to change eeprom. Hope this helps
some.

There's some kind of short in the main power

Simply replace it. If it's the transistor, replace

It can also be a bad solder contact (cold weld).

ATTN TECHS Magnavox is trying to solve their
mistake. The red lens was used for the blue tube in production to
save design and build costs of a dedicated blue lens. They turned the
red lens 180 deg. this puts the vent/fill cap facing the chassis, I
have spent hours on the phone with Phillips trying to get a good fix
for the problem. They will not recommend this but it is the only true
fix for now remove the blue tube and turn upside down. Replace vent
cap gasket and fluid damaged pcb's. Magnavox will pay for warranty on
these sets but they only pay $70.00 for a 2.5 hour job and that is
for a tech that has repaired lots of them. Up to 4 hours for a tech
who has not. Lets get Phillips to pay for their mistake like we did
to Mitsubishi (vs series tubes) any ?

VS-405R
Picture is weak and color is
washed out.
You may have weak projection tubes. A work around
I have found that works is . . . there are TWO ceramic resistors on
the main pc board sitting next to each other (where the flyback
transformer is mounted) they are in series with the flyback winding
that supplies the voltage to the projection tubes filaments. If you
jumper just one (they are in parallel with each other) you increase
the voltage to the tubes and it's just like new.
This fix has worked on my Mits for over 2
years!
Tip kindly supplied by

Dead... (picture might shrink
before failure)
I have found the yokes on the projection tubes
fail. and arc to the tubes coating. Sometimes you can just apply
shellac to windings and let them dry for a few days, other times you
have to replace the yokes When they fail they usually distroy the
horizontal output transistor and blow the main fuse. You can get yokes
for this model as Mits does have a sub!

leaky CRT'S this gem will leak fluid onto your IC401 causing severe

as DOW CORNING 732 or DOW 738 lets have MITSUBISHI pay for these they
are handling on a case by case basis I believe. They are possibly

General Faults
Occasional high voltage "pop"
causing set to loose picture momentarilly
This problem comes up every now
and again, usually it's caused by the high voltage "shield" that is
also used as a heat sink for the vertical/horizontal output
transistors. Best bet is to ensure that the "screen" is properly
grounded to main ground.
