  Height: The Australian Shepherd male's height ranges from 20-23 inches tall; females 18-21 inches tall.
  Weight: The Australian Shepherd's weight ranges from 35-70 lbs.
  Colors: The Australian Shepherd can be blue merle, black, red merle and all red with or without white markings and/or tan points.
  General Appearance: The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent working dog of strong herding and guarding instincts. The dog is a loyal companion and has the stamina to work all day. This dog breed is well balanced, slightly longer than tall, of medium size and bone structure. The dog's coloring offers variety and individuality. The Australian Shepherd is attentive and animated, agile, solid and muscular. The dog has a coat of moderate length and coarseness and a docked or natural bobbed tail.
  Temperament: The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent, active dog with an even disposition. This dog breed is good natured and seldom quarrelsome. The Australian Shepherd may be somewhat reserved in initial meetings with strangers.
  Care: The Australian Shepherd requires minimal grooming. Bathe the dog only when necessary and brush the dog's coat weekly. Pay special attention to the dog's coat after going out so that you can remove burrs and foxtails.
  Training: The Australian Shepherd requires obedience as a puppy.
  Activity: The Australian Shepherd requires daily exercise to help to maintain good muscle tone.
  Life Span:  Australian Shepherds live about 14-16 years.

  Brief History: The Australian Shepherd does not come from Australian as the name suggests. The Australian Shepherd was developed in the United States to work as a herding dog on ranches. It is said that in 1875 Baxque sheep herders began to migrate to the United States bringing their sheep dogs with them. At that time the dog breed developed into the Australian Shepherd. The Australian Shepherd was recognized by the Canadian and Mexican Kennel Clubs in 1976, and by the United Kennel Club in 1979, but they did not become part of the AKC until 1991 when they were admitted to the Miscellaneous class.
