  Also Called: Epagneul Breton
  Height: The Brittany Spaniel should be 17½-20½ inches tall, measured from the ground to the highest point of the shoulders.
  Weight: The Brittany Spaniel should weigh between 30-40 pounds.
  Colors: The Brittany Spaniel can be orange and white or liver and white in either clear or roan patterns. Some ticking is desirable. The orange or liver is found in the standard parti-color or piebald patterns. Washed out colors are not desirable. Tri-colors are allowed but not preferred. A tri-color is a liver and white dog with classic orange markings on eyebrows, muzzle and cheeks, inside the ears and under the tail, freckles on the lower legs are orange.
  General Appearance: The Brittany Spaniel is a compact, closely knit dog of medium size, a leggy dog having the appearance, as well as the agility, of a great ground coverer. Strong, vigorous, energetic and quick of movement. Ruggedness, without clumsiness, is a characteristic of the breed. He can be tailless or has a tail docked to approximately four inches.
  Temperament: Brittany's usually have execeptionally friendly temperments, they love people and get along well with other dogs. They are a happy, alert dog, neither mean nor shy.
  Care: The Brittany requires only a few minutes of brushing each day to maintain his lovely coat.
  Training: The Brittany is a natural pointer and excellent retriever who makes a great hunting companion.
  Activity: The Brittany Spaniel needs regular exercise or it may become restless.
  Life Span: The Brittany Spaniel lives about 10-12 years.
  Litter Size: The Brittany Spaniel averages about 6-10 puppies per litter.
  Country of Origin: The Brittany Spaniel originated in France.
  Brief History: It is possible that Brittany Spaniels may date back as far back as 150 A.D. More accurately they can be found in French and Dutch paintings and tapestries from the 17th century. They were first exhibited in the early 1900's in France and made their way to the United States in 1931. It is the only pointing spaniel. Its name is derived from the French Province of Brittany. The first breed standard was written in France about 1907.
