Height: The Field Spaniel's

Colors: The Field
Spaniel can be black, liver, golden liver or shades thereof, in any
intensity (dark or light); either self-colored or bi-colored. Bi-colored
dogs must be roaned and/or ticked in white areas. |

General Appearance: The
Field Spaniel is a combination of beauty and utility. It is a well balanced,
substantial hunter-companion of medium size, built for activity and
endurance in a heavy cover and water. It has a noble carriage; a proud but
docile attitude; is sound and free moving. Symmetry, gait, attitude and
purpose are more important than any one part. |

Temperament: The
Field Spaniel combines energy and the enthusiasm for hunting with the
affectionate personality of a companion dog. Unusually docile, sensitive,
funloving, independent and intelligent, with a great affinity for human
companionship. They may be somewhat reserved in initial meetings. |

Care: The Field
Spaniel needs moderate care of it's silky coat.
Recommended brushing for 5 minutes twice a week. Professional trimming
should also been done a few times a year. Regular ear cleaning. |

Training: The Field Spaniel
needs to be a useful member of the family and may be trained to work as a
hunter, obedience dog or in tracking. |

Activity: The Field Spaniel
is a very active breed, exercise is essential. Frequent runs on a leash and
a fenced in back yard are suggested. |

Brief History:
At one time the sporting spaniel family were loosely
classified as Field Spaniels, later the family was divided by weight, the
larger dogs known as field spaniels the smaller ones Cocker Spaniels.
Originally you could find a litter who would contain both. Beside the Cocker
you will find Sussex, Irish Water and English Water Spaniel in his
bloodline. In 1948 the Field Spaniel Society did considerable work to
produce a better proportioned standard type breed. |
