We all have important values and ideas, things we care about and want to share. Sometimes we feel our ideas can even change the world, and we want to let other people know how they can join in and make all our lives better. Mission Statement!
Greetings. For years I've been trying to find a way to give to the community in a manner that best suited my personality, loves and interests. I love stuff toys and I'm a big fan of Stargate SG-1. Last year I attended the Gatecon convention in Vancouver, Canada where a presentation of 800 stuffed toys was made to the Starlight Children's Foundation in Teryl Rothery's name. (Dr. Janet Frasier on Stargate SG-1) That's when I discovered then joined the ranks of the Stuffy Guard. (www.stuffyguard.org) I'm now the proud commander of the Darlin Dolphin Pod Squad.
This has given me a direction, now what I needed were ways to encourage people to donate stuff toys or Stuffies as we call them, to the cause. It took me awhile but I came up with two recruiting events. The first is a Game Night Birthday Party that requires a cuddly toy to participate. The second is a stuffy drive at ConDor, a local Science Fiction convention. (www.condorcon.org) Between the two, I hope to enlist 200 new toys into the ranks of the Stuffy Guard.
Now that I have events planned and hopes for a large quantity to be collected, I had to find some local organizations that could use stuffies as shipping 200 to Vancouver is way beyond my budget. Not an easy task but I did find two, the SDPD Crisis Intervention team and the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation. (www.capfsd.com) Both are worthwhile organizations in need of donations year round but often forgotten when the warmth of Christmas has cooled along with the weather.
It is my hope that this new project of mine will be successful enough that I can eventually recruit and distribute 500+ cuddly stuff toys in the next six months. If you are interested in more information, please feel free to contact me at don8_stuff_toys@yahoo.com.
