Don Ignacio pays tribute to:

Peter Sellers

(September 8, 1925 - July 24, 1980)

Peter Sellers is one of the most famous and well known comedians of all time. He starred in the BBC Radio series called "The Goon Show" which was basically a Monty Python of the later 1940's. Peter Sellers made his first notable appearance in The Ladykillers (1955) and then made an incredible performance with Terry-Thomas as a sadistic villian in Tomb Thumb (1958). Sellers then starred in The Mouse that Roared (1959) and I'm All Right Jack (1959) which established Sellers as an international star. However, that was nothing compared with the enormous popularity Sellers received when he starred in The Pink Panther (1964) as the bumbling Inspector Cleauseau. Sellers reprised that role in the sequels A Shot in the Dark (1964), The Return of the Pink Panther (1974), The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), The Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), and made a posthumous appearance in The Trail of the Pink Panther (1982). Throughout his career, Sellers appeared in such flicks as Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962), Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), where Sellers received an Oscar nomination, What's New Pussycat? (1965), I Love You, Alice B. Toklas (1968), Murder by Death (1976), and the brilliant satire, Being There (1979) which also earned him an Academy Award nomination. Sellers was one of the most colorful comedians whose probably most notable talents were mimicking exotic accents to perfection. He did a French accent in The Pink Panther series, an Indian accent in The Party (1968), and both an American accent a German accent in Dr. Strangelove. Peter Sellers unfortunately died of a heart attack at only 54 years of age. He is and will forever be remembered as one of the most inspirational comedians of the 20th Century.
