Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart star in this absolutely delightful classic that has been an American favorite for nearly 50 years. Katherine Hepburn plays an ambitious missionary residing in a remote part of the African jungle who leads a very happy and peaceful life. And then comes the mighty Germans troops who burn the houses and kill the converts as a part of their World War I campaign. This leaves Hepburn and her brother (played by Robert Morely) alone in their isolated villiage. Together, they try to make due, but when Morely dies, Hepburn has no one to turn to but a sloppy Canadian (played by Humphrey Bogart) and his broken down steamboat called 'The African Queen'. They travel down a long, winding river where they must withstand a very dangerous German fort at its bank and incredibly violent rapids. Together they suffer triumphs, tragedy and romance. The African Queen is certainly one of the best movies ever made with excellent scenery, sharp dialogue, perfect acting and a purely exciting, thrilling adventure. Sheer Hollywood fun! See it; it also make a good choice for the entire family!
