The first moments of this lesser Steven Spielberg picture are almost unbearably corny, but once the picture finally gets rolling, it proves to be quite beautiful. Richard Dreyfuss stars as a reckless forest fireman (who flies around in airplanes). He declares his undying love for his fiancée (Holly Hunter) and then goes on a fire fighting mission where he saves the life of his best friend (John Goodman) at the expense of his own. He dies (doh!) and is asked by an angel (Audrey Hepburn in her final film appearance) to serve as the inspiration to an aspiring firefighter (Brad Johnson). However, he is sent to the same place that both his fiancée and friend reside. It's light entertainment, but it's very captivating. Had Spielberg improved the opening scenes, I would have had no problem giving it an A-minus. But . . . such is life, I suppose.
