Baby Boom

Diane Keaton stars in this remarkably well-made parenthood comedy about a highly successful business woman from New York who inherits an infant from some relative she hardly ever knew. When she becomes attached to the kid, her career greatly suffers, so she feels it best to move to a country estate in Vermont for a 'better and slower life'. When she gets there, she finds that the house is a piece of junk (the heat doesn't work right, the well's dried up, there’s a hole in the roof, etc.) and she spends her entire savings trying to fix it up. Now she is stuck living in the backwoods which literally drives her insane. What do you get when you put a successful business woman in Vermont who has nothing important to do? Sell! Sell! Sell! The premise is surprisingly entertaining, and Diane Keaton gives one of the best performances of her career. Well worth a look.
