Inadequate remake of the 1933 classic is about a crew of oil diggers traveling to an undiscovered island which they are led to believe is a super source of oil. Well, instead of bringing tons of oil back to the United States, they end up bringing a giant gorilla. Usually a tedious film with unimpressive visual effects. The film seems to try to make this monkey out as the eighth wonder of the world, but doesn't succeed entirely. It's not as terrifying or touching as it should be. Jessica Lange's movie debut.
