A very sweet adolescent romance film is about a vertically challenged, but extremely intelligent high school kid, named Lucas, who befriends a taller, beautiful, and older girl, named Maggie, one summer. However, when school starts, Lucas is afraid that romance with Maggie (who never felt their relationship was romantic whatsoever) is slipping away when she turns to the football captain, played by Charlie Sheen. So he joins the football team to try to impress her. If you stack all the adolescent romance films in order from best to worst, you'll find this one to be near the top because it's realistic and relevant (and that's a rarity!) Winona Ryder's movie debut.
