Rear Window

If Christopher Reeve is going to be in a movie after his paralysis, this is the role for him! It's the remake of the classic Alfred Hitchcock thriller about a wheelchair stricken man left to do nothing in his apartment but to spy on his neighbors. Soon, he believes that one of them killed his spouse. When he tells the police and his friends, nobody believes him except for his coworker played by Daryl Hannah ---- what will happen next? Inferior to the original, this update has a lesser dialogue and technology seems to undermine the story. In the 50's, when the original took place, everybody had their blinds withdrawn because they had their windows open due to the heat. In the 90's everybody has air conditioning so it brings out the question: why the blinds are withdrawn; people are usually very private today. Sometimes the film tries to be inspirational noting how Christopher Reeve recovered his injuries despite the odds; that didn't help Rear Window one bit. On the bright side, the conclusion is wonderfully thrilling!
