While it doesn't even come close to matching the splendor of any member of the original Star Wars trilogy, The Attack of the Clones is a significant improvement over The Phantom Menace. As in most current films, action and splendor gives way to plot, but there is enough substance to keep this film ticking. As in The Phantom Menace , the film seems to rely too much on the original trilogy; the film is functionally one part of a huge film. Each part of the trilogy ought to stand on its own feet, but who am I to argue George Lucas? (I should get one of those digital movie screens in my bedroom.)
