Albert Eugene Davis(1875-1952) and Mary Betsy Grant Davis (1878-1953)

Albert Eugene (Gene) Davis was born in Squantam, MA. When he was about nine months old, his folks moved to Woburn, MA, where he received his education. He attended the Cedar St School in Button End of that town and later attended Burdett Business College in Boston. He worked for a short time as a bookkeeper, than moved to Auburn, NH.

He was superintendent of the Auburn schools for a short time. He met Mary Betsy Grant and they were married on December 25, 1899 in Auburn. They set up housekeeping on the old Calef farm located on the road from Chester to Auburn where they lived for five years. Their daughters Beatrice and Violet were born there.

While living in Auburn he drove a milk wagon from Auburn to the HP Hood Creamery and also worked in their grain store. He was also manager of Benson's lumber yard in Derry. They lived in a cottage on Breezy Point at Beaver Lake for a short time. At various times, they lived in the Benson house at Beaver Lake, on the corner of Wilson Ave and Birch St, and finally they moved to 6 Pearl St, Derry, where they lived until 1934. Two more children were born there: Grant E. Davis and Virginia.

Mary graduated from Pinkerton Academy, Derry NH about 1897. In the winter months she boarded at Hildreth Hall while attending high school. In the summer she lived at home and was driven to school each day in a horse and buggy by her brother Perley. After graduation she taught in the one room school house in Auburn for a short time. This is when she met her future husband. After they married she stayed at home to raise her children.   (Information from Beatrice Davis Gibson)
