The French, or Belgium Flemish call this
city Bruges.
It is a Medieval town surrounded by water resembling a moat with old stone
draw bridge entrances on some roads. Cobble stone streets are the norm
in some parts and a collection of some of the best preserved Medieval buildings
in all of Europe make this town one of the most memorable of my experiences
in traveling. The photo above is of the cafés lining up in front
of the 17th century buildings in the Markt. This is the Dutch term for
Market. It wasn't unusual to come across buildings dating back to the 1500s.
You can easily get lost in history here. It is truly one of the most beautiful
cities I have ever come across. Most North Americans probably have never
heard of this town but most people I spoke to In the Netherlands insisted
if there was any place to visit in the Benelux region this was the place.
If your in Europe you must see this town even at the expense of missing
some of the larger well know cities that truly have only half the charm
of Brugge.
