Wilfred 'Bob' Boulerice, 75 Prescott-area resident "Bob" Wilfred Edward Joseph Boulerice died at Brockville General Hospital on Oct. 6, 1999. He was 75. He is survived by his wife Melba (Casselman) Boulerice whom he married on April 30, 1949 and by his daughter Jo-Anne Beckstead and her husband Allan of Prescott, as well as by grandchildren Luke and Chelsea. Also surviving are brothers Rudolph (Rudy) and his wife June of Morrisburg and Edward (Ted) of Chesterville, and sister Edna (Art) Carkner of Morrisburg, as well as brother and sisters-in-law Matt and Norma Hayes of Prescott and Nellie Casselman of Santa Barbara, California. Mr. Boulerice is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his in-laws Arnold and Aletha Casselman and by his brother-in-law Beverly Casselman. He was born on March 20, 1924 at Williamsburg, Ont. to the late Arthur Boulerice and the late Louise Burelle. He was the oldest of four siblings ­ his sister Edna and brothers Rudy and Teddy. He was raised and educated in that area, living in Morrisburg and attending local schools. He worked at Pyramid Paper then joined the army in 1942 where he was assigned to the Infantry Division. He served in Canada and in England and was discharged on April 27, 1946. After returning home he met, courted and married a young lady from Winchester Springs, Melba. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. They had one child, daughter Jo-Anne Marie. Mr. Boulerice worked at General Motors in Oshawa before being employed on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. He went on to work at the DLD (Canadian Coast Guard) as a blacksmith for 26 years, retiring on August 21, 1987. He was known for being a wonderful friend to many people, always quick to visit anyone who was sick. He always had a joke to tell and his most common expression was "What's new Mr." Mr. Boulerice had a soft spot in his heart for everyone but was firm in both his beliefs and his actions. He was always laughing or smiling and was sure to visit all renovations and projects being done in the area to offer his opinion on how the work should be done. Mr. Boulerice was affiliated with St. Mark's Church in Prescott. Visitation was held at the Grant Brown Funeral Home ­  MacDonald Chapel on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8. Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Mark's Church Saturday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. Father J. Appelman officiated. Ryan Hayes and Rev. Claude Delorme read scriptures and Matt Hayes delivered the eulogy. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. Pallbearers were Sean Boulerice, Brian Carkner, Ryan Hayes, Robert Boulerice, Doug Hayes and Clajoe Delorme. Honourary pallbearers were Eugene Countryman, Earl Greer, Ed Thompson, Barry Lampson, Dick Bush and Bill Johnson. Keith Weir, 83 Edwardsburgh Township native W. Keith Weir died at Brockville General Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999. He was 83. He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Gilroy) Weir, whom he married at South Mountain, Ont. on June 2, 1951. The couple lived on Centre Street in Spencerville at the time of his death. Also surviving is son David (Bea) of Fort Saskatchewan and daughter Norma (Larry) of Toronto, as well as grandchildren Kevin, Jeffrey and Valerie (Mo), great-grandchildren William and Noah, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters Beryl Glenn, Glenna Payne and Ruth (Jack) Rose. Mr. Weir was born on June 12, 1916 in Edwardsburgh Township to the late Thomas Weir and the late Annie Whitley. He went on to work as a farmer then as a die finisher at Webster Horsfield for 17 years. Mr. Weir had been retired for the past 16 years. He enjoyed woodworking and using his computer, and he was an avid  reader, reading anything except fiction. He was an honourary director with the Spencerville Agricultural Society, a ham radio operator (VE3 KJA) and a member of the Spencerville United Church. Visitation was at the Grant Brown Funeral Home­Purcell Chapel, Spencerville on Sept. 30. The funeral service was held in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. Rev. Pat Swann officiated, assisted by Doug Warren. Interment was in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Spencerville. Donald Lloyd Robinson, 69 Prescott area resident Donald Lloyd Robinson died at Brockville General Hospital on Sept. 24, 1999. He was 69. He is survived by his wife Dureen Throop, of RR 2 Prescott, whom he married on May 26, 1951. Also surviving are sons Glenn and his wife Mary Jane of Prescott, Rae and his wife Debra of Manotick and Stephen (Don) and his wife Shawleen of Ottawa, and daughters Donna Plume of Prescott and Patti Boswall and her husband Dale of Prescott. Mr. Robinson is also survived by grandchildren Graham and Jessica Robinson, Kevin and Philip Plume and Alex and Marissa Boswell as well as brother Clair of Osgoode and sisters Doris Seabrook of North Gower and Vivian Gagne of Oshawa. He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred Robinson and Gertrude Render to whom he was born at South Mountain on May 9, 1930. He was raised and educated in South Mountain then moved to Prescott where he worked as a painter for years. He was employed in the maintenance department of the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital for 15 years, until his retirement in 1995. His hobbies included playing cards, travelling and spending time with his family. Visitation was held at the Grant Brown Funeral Home-MacDonald Chapel, Dibble Street, Prescott on Monday, Sept. 27. The funeral was held in the chapel of the funeral home following visitation. Pastor Randy Hopkins of the Standard Church in Brockville officiated. Interment was at Maynard Cemetery. Pallbearers were Burt O'Dell, Fred Hoogwerf, Douglas Seabrook, Claude Milbourne, Carl Throop and Wayne Reid. Ruth (Adams) Showell, 89 Johnstown native Ruth (Adams) Showell died at the St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville on Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999. She was in her 90th year. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander Showell of St. Catharines, by her son Neil Showell and by sisters Mary Boutilier and Eileen Adams and brothers Cecil, Roy, George, Ralph and Morrow Adams. She is survived by her daughter-in-law and best friend Lela Showell of Nepean, and by her grandchildren Mark and his wife Joy of Halifax, Robin of Nepean and David and his wife Catherine of Gloucester. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Thomas, Alexander, Rosemary and Monica, sisters Florence (Mrs. Gordon Pulfer) of Iroquois, Sybil (Mrs. Murray Leedham) of Carrying Place and Joan (Mrs. Ross  Cummings) of Johnstown, sister-in-law Maude Younge of Cornwall and many nieces and nephews. Ruth grew up at Johnstown, the eldest daughter of James and Clara Adams. She went to public school in Wexford then attended Prescott High School and Brockville Business College. After graduation, Ruth worked for General Motors in Oshawa. She married Alec Showell in Cornwall and during the Second World War, when Alec served overseas, she worked for the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder. They moved from Cornwall to Iroquois, where Alec worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway and Ruth worked for the Bank of Montreal. Later Alec was transferred to St. Catharines. After his death, Ruth returned to Prescott where she had many relatives and friends. She was a long-time member of St. Paul's United Church in Prescott. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. D.J. Carnegie. Interment took place at Iroquois Point Cemetery. The pallbearers were her three grandsons and her nephews  Wayne Pulfer, Lee Adams and Bruce Leedham. - The Prescott Journal, Sept. 29, 1999.

Arnold Keith (Arnie) Hitsman, 50 Arnold Keith (Arnie) Hitsman died Tuesday, Sept, 14, 1999, suddenly at his home on Edward Street in Prescott. He was born Jan. 16, 1949 in Winchester, the 14th child of (Jay) John Hitsman and the former Bessie Budner. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (nee Miller) of Prescott whom he married July 12, 1969 at St. Paul's United Church. Also surviving is his mother Bessie Hitsman, who lives at Bayfield Manor in Kemptville, his sons Arnold Jr. (Gomer) and his friend April of Hallville, Arthur (Artie) and his wife Stacy of Prescott, daughter Crystal and her husband Christopher Phillips of Prescott, and granddaughters Heather and Sierra Hitsman. Mr. Hitsman is also survived by brothers Ken and his friend Winnie, George and his friend Eugenie of Iroquois, Harold and his wife Marilyn, and Doug and his wife Sandy of Prescott, and by sisters Cynthia Hadlock of Hammond, New York, Rose (Jim) Colligan, Jean (Alex) Beatson of Cardinal, Margaret Hanes, Shirley (Clarence) Daub and Linda (Larry) Warren of Prescott, as well as by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Mr. Hitsman was predeceased by his father Jay (John) Hitsman, brother Gerald and sisters Mildred Lavallie, Blanche Lewis and Muriel Keeler. After their marriage, the Hitsmans lived in Prescott, Spencerville, South Mountain and Cardinal before building a home in Brouseville in 1973. They lived there until 1986, when they returned to Prescott. Mr. Hitsman worked at numerous jobs until 1973, when he was employed by Masterfeeds in Johnstown as a receiver, grinder. He stayed there until he was injured on the job in 1989. His hobbies were doing body work on and painting cars, something he was unable to do in the past few years as his injuries worsened. He loved people and talking on the telephone, and his house was always open to everyone. The coffee pot or the tea kettle was always on. Mr. Hitsman's greatest joys in life were his children and granddaughters. He was proud of each and every one of them. His family meant a lot to him, as did his many friends. Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 16 and Friday, Sept. 17. The funeral service was held at St. John's Anglican Church on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. Rev. Gerry Ring officiated and Mr. Hitsman's two sons gave the eulogy. The committal service followed, with burial at Maynard Cemetery. Clifford Paul Gilmer, 62  Long-time Prescott resident Clifford Paul Gilmer died at Ottawa General Hospital on Sept. 15, 1999 after a nine-month long battle with cancer. He was 62. He is survived by his wife Ruth (nee Furlong), of Prescott whom he married Oct. 8, 1965 at St. Paul's United Church. Also surviving is his mother Lulu Anne Gilmer who lives at Bayfield Manor in Kemptville, son Randall Paul Gilmer of Kemptville, and stepsons W. Paul Valcour of Nepean, and Mark S. Valcour of Cantley, Quebec, as well as daughter Heather Lynne McDougall of Manotick and brother Donald Glenn Gilmer and his wife Moira of Brockville. Mr. Gilmer is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan McDougall, Maggie McDougall and Nicole Gilmer. He was predeceased by his stepdaughter Heather Ann Valcour and by his father Clifford Mansell Gilmer. Mr. Gilmer was born in Matilda Township on Dec. 15, 1936. He worked at Hyndman Cheese Factory and Kemptville Creamery before going to work at Hathaway Canada Ltd. where he was employed as plant manager at the time of his retirement. Mr. Gilmer was living in Nepean at the time of his death but had previously lived in Kemptville then Prescott where he resided for 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church. Mr. Gilmer was an avid curler and had served as president of the Prescott Curling Club. The Funeral Service was held at Grant Brown Funeral Home ­ Rolston Chapel, in Kemptville. Rev. Gary W. Stokes officiated and Shirley Stokes was the organist. Interment was at South Gower Cemetery. Pallbearers were Douglas Gilmer, Dalton Gilmer, John McDougall, Ryan McDougall, Ian Gilmer and David Duncan. Terry Pope, 78 Terry Pope passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at the Dundas Manor Nursing Home in Winchester.  He was 78. Born July 10, 1921 in Kemptville, Terry had a milk run in the Iroquois area after returning home from the war. Shortly after the Seaway project started, Terry and his brothers formed Pope Brothers Construction Company. Following that, he worked for various local construction companies including: Redmond's Sand and Gravel, Forbes' Construction, Charlie Price Enterprises, and Cruickshank Construction. During his years in the construction trade Terry became known as "Pick Handle Pope." Upon retiring, Terry lived in Williamsburg until he suffered a stroke in 1992. Following the stroke, Terry lived with his son Danny and his family for a short time before moving to Prescott, where he lived with his son Dave and his family. Terry had moved to the Dundas Manor just three weeks prior to his death. During his lifetime, Terry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 370 in Iroquois. He is predeceased by his father Herb Pope, mother Elizabeth Pope (nee McHugh), and his former spouse Lois Duval, whom he married Aug. 14, 1947. He was also predeceased by his son Danny and brothers Pat and Jack. Terry is survived by his sons David (Patricia) of Prescott and Daryl (Jerrie) of Charleville, as well as two daughters, June Dolson of Johnstown and Janet (David) Clairmont of Ottawa. Terry will be sadly missed by 22 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. Terry was a member of the Third Anti-tank Battery of the Royal Canadian Army from 1942 to 1945. He enlisted in Ottawa in 1942 after his training in Petawawa and served three years in Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. His father Herb had been a sergeant major in World War I. Terry's sharp wit and humour will be missed by all his family and friends. Friends and family called at the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home in Iroquois, where Rev. Lloyd Kirkby presided over the service. Interment was held at the Iroquois Point Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lyle Redmond, Mark Redmond, Barry Redmond, Steve Redmond, John Kocher, and Barry Forbes.  Charlie Price was an honourary pallbearer. Howard Smith Baldwin, 72 Howard Smith Baldwin of Cardinal passed away Aug. 29, 1999 at Winchester Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 72 years old. Howard was born in Cardinal on Jan. 2, 1927 and became an operator at the Casco Cardinal plant, where he worked for 47 years. Howard was a member of St. John's United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 105 in Cardinal. He was predeceased by his parents Silas Baldwin and Ethel Murphy. He is survived by his wife Ada Crowder, sons John (Brenda) of Barrie, Bob (Cathy) of Barrie, Jeff of Cardinal, daughter Barbara Anderson of Cardinal, brothers Wesley (Betty) of Cardinal, Conrad (Jean) of Schulnenacadie, Nova Scotia, and sister Dolores (Bill) Maville of Prescott. Howard is also survived by grandchildren Robbie (Dianne) and Matthew Anderson, Josh and Jonathon Baldwin, all of Cardinal, Kelly (Mark) Kloosterman, Scott and Andrew Baldwin all of Barrie, and great grandchildren Aaron Kloosterman and Payton Anderson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Howard and Ada married on Nov. 23, 1945 at her home in Inkerman. Howard was a lifelong hockey and baseball fan. Norma Riddell Norma Riddell (nee Thompson) of Morrisburg died in the Winchester and District Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999. She was predeceased by her husband Eric Riddell, who was an OPP sergeant. Mrs. Riddell is survived by her daughters Cheri (Kevin McCracken) of Oakville and Shelley (Darrell Schroer), of Nepean, as well as by grandchildren Austin and Andrew Schroer. Also surviving are sister Mildred Atchison of Ottawa, brother Doug Thompson of Cornwall, and brothers-in-law Bill McCormack of Gananoque and Glenn (Marjorie) Riddell of Prescott. Mrs. Riddell was predeceased by sisters Alma McIntosh, Helen McCormack, Lila Thompson and by brother John Thompson. Edward Mattice, 79 Edward "Ed" Elrick Mattice, an eight-year resident of Morris-Glen Court, Morrisburg and formerly of Hamilton, died on Monday, Aug. 23 at Winchester District Memorial Hospital after an eight-year illness.  He was 79. Mr. Mattice was born in Morrisburg on March 8, 1920 to the late George Edward Mattice and Zena Ethel Lapierre.  He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years Mary Johnson in 1983. He was the dear brother of Arnold (Joyce) of Morrisburg. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Morrisburg. Graveside memorial service was held on Friday, Aug. 27 at Fairview Cemetery, Morrisburg with Rev. Edna Lorraine MacDonald, 70 Edna Lorraine MacDonald (nee Olsen) of Morrisburg peacefully passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 24 after a short but courageous battle with bowel disease, in her 71st year.  She remained in full control of her life and her destiny to the very end. Born and raised in Westboro, she was the beloved youngest daughter of the late Florence and Gilbert Olsen.  She attended Nepean High School where she met her future husband and was employed with R.L. Crane Industries during and after the war years. The proud mother of three boys, Mrs. MacDonald and her family moved to Morrisburg in 1961, where she worked for Beaver Dental Products, participated as a volunteer in national charity campaigns and contributed to community election programs. She was an extremely caring, sensitive person to all.  She was predeceased by her husband Bruce MacDonald (Ontario Hydro) of Morrisburg and her oldest sister, Rita Cummings of Ottawa.  She is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey (Deborah Dmetruik) of Orleans, Blair (Lori Boyd) of Toronto and Tom (Karen Shearing) of Milton; her sister Margaret Olsen of Ottawa; and her six grandchildren, Colin, Michael, Haley, Laine, Stacey and Kevin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends paid their respects at the Parker Funeral Home, Morrisburg on Friday, Aug. 27.  Funeral service was held in the chapel on Saturday, Aug. 28 with Rev. Donald Smith officiating.  Interment will be next to her husband at the Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa. The family wishes to thank the civic Hospital ICU staff, the doctors and nurses of Ward D and Dr. Baron and his team for their assistance and compassion in supporting Mrs. MacDonald's wishes and making her as comfortable as possible in her last days.  Special thanks to Ruth and Bill Shearing. Hubert Hess, 70 Hubert Hess of RR 4 Winchester died suddenly on Friday, Aug. 27 at Winchester District Memorial Hospital.  He was 70. Mr. Hess was the beloved husband of Gwen Hess (nee Casselman), whom he married on March 31, 1956 at Williamsburg United Church Manse.  He was born in Winchester Township on May 29, 1929, the dear son of Pauline Hess (nee Froats) and the late Harlod Hess. A farmer, Mr. Hess was a lifetime resident of the Winchester area.  He was the proud fater of Allen (Mary Jane) of RR 4 Winchester and dear brother of Darcy (Kitty) of Kitchener, Lyle (Sandra) of Windsor, Glendon of Cobourg, Annie (Lyle) Barkley of Inkerman and Lila (Jim) Crowder of RR 2 Williamsburg.  He was predeceased by sister Marion Hess. He will be sadly missed by grandchildren Jeffery and Jennifer, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hess enjoyed gardening and visiting with his many friends and neighbours.  He loved animals and enjoyed lending a helping hand to anybody in need. Marjorie Ellis-Byerly, 58 Marjorie Ellis-Byerly (nee Armstrong), a resident of Pinewood, Ontario died suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 15.  She was 58. Marjorie Armstrong was born in Hammond, Ontario on April 16, 1941, the daughter of the late Reuben Armstrong and the late Helen Cougler of Winchester. She was the wife of the late Norman Byerly.  She is predeceased by her son, Carson Ellis. She is survived by a dear friend, William Ellis. She was the dear mother of Roseanne (Rick) Hogeveen of Russell, Beverly (Norman) Albert of Aylmer and Barry (Saria) of Pinewood, Ontario.  She was the loving grandmother of Maggie, Carson and James, Adrian and Amanda, Patrick, Christopher and Jade, Kayla and Morgan. She was the dear sister of Jack Armstrong of Pinewood, Marion (Mike) Bouthillier, Harvey (Etheel) Armstrong and Lois (Gary) Westover. Funeral service was held at the Duncan Funeral Home, Metcalfe on Aug. 21.  Interment at Hammond Cemetery. Ruth Audrey Ball,  87 Ruth Audrey Ball of Starwood Nursing Home-Extendicare, Nepean and formerly of Ingleside, died at her residence on Friday, August 27 at the age of 87. Mrs. Ball was born in Winchester on March 10, 1912 to the late John Cumming and Mary MacGregor.  She was predeceased by her husband John Robert Ball in 1975.  They were married in Cornwall on August 14, 1947. She was the dear mother of Phurn Ball of Ottawa.  She was predeceased by one brother, Erwin Cumming, and one sister, Jennie McLean. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.  Parker Funeral Home, Morrisburg has been entrusted with arrangements. Mrs. Ball received her education in Ormond Public School and other local schools.  She worked as a clerk for Ogilvy Stores.  She was a member of the Baptist Church. Harry McNeill, 79 Thomas Harry McNeill of Prescott died at Ottawa Civic Hospital on July 26, 1999. He was 79. Mr. McNeill was born in Prescott on Jan. 10, 1920, to the late Thomas James McNeill and the late Emily Sutton. He was raised and educated in Prescott. During World War II, he was stationed in Halifax and helped with convoy runs from Halifax to England. Mr. McNeill ran a general store in Mountain for 27 years, then later moved east of Iroquois. After 10 years, he moved again, to his home on Royal Crescent in Prescott. In 1943, he married the Doris Deeks, who died in 1984. He remarried, to the late L. Irene Ralph, who predeceased him in 1995. Mr. McNeill was affiliated with the Presbyterian church. He loved to curl and golf. He was also an active member of the VON up until eight weeks before his death. He is survived by his son Gordon of Prescott, daughters Kathie (Joe) Timmins of Stittsville and step-daughter Wanda Cassidy of Prescott, as well as by two grandchildren, Megan and Nicole. A graveside memorial service was held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland, on Thursday, July 29.  Rev. Allan Duncan officiated. Blanche Leroux, 85 Former downtown Prescott merchant Blanche A. (Seeley) Leroux died on Aug. 1, 1999, at Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Whitby, Ont. She was 85. Mrs. Leroux owned and operated the Maybelle Shoppe in Prescott for many years. She sold it, then purchased English's Ladies Wear and ran it until 1976, when she sold the store to Ray and Vivian Young and retired. Mrs. Leroux was born in Matilda Township, Ont., on Feb. 7, 1914 to the late Wellington Seeley and the late Georgella Hamilton. She was raised and educated in Matilda Township. She married the late Alcide Leroux, who died in 1974. Mrs. Leroux was affiliated with the United Church and belonged to the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion. She frequently travelled to Florida during the winters. She is survived by her sister, Hilda Johnston of Belleville, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Leroux was predeceased by her brother Graham Seeley and two sisters, Ruth Coons and Doris Shaver. The funeral service was held in the chapel of Grant Brown Funeral Home in Prescott on Thursday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. Rev. Allan Duncan officiated. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. Eva May Saunders, 85 Heckston native Eva May Saunders died at St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville on Thursday, July 22, 1999. She was 85. She was born in Heckston, Ont. on January 15, 1914, the youngest daughter of the late Hugh Gilmer and Anne Sommerville. Eva married Wellington Robinson and made many good friends while the couple lived in Hyndman and in Iroquois. She remained in Iroquois for many years after her husband died, then married Eber Saunders and moved to Smiths Falls. After the death of her second husband, Eva moved to Kemptville, where she had attended high school. She lived at the Pines, 200 Bridge St. until she became ill and moved to St. Lawrence Lodge. During her lifetime, Eva enjoyed the many bridge and euchre organizations she belonged to and the many friends she made there. She was a member of the Heckston United Church. Eva was predeceased by her first husband Wellington Robinson and by her second husband Eber Saunders as well as brothers Calvin, Angus and Stanley Gilmer, sister Susan and son-in-law Neil Showell. She is survived by her daughter Lela Robinson Showell of Nepean and by grandchildren Mark (Joy) of Nova Scotia, Robin and David (Catherine) of Ottawa. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Thomas, Alexander, Rosemary and Monica, sister Winnifred Keays of Perth, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation was held at the Grant Brown Funeral Home­Rolston Chapel Kemptville on July 25. The funeral service was held July 26 in the chapel of the funeral home at 1 p.m. Rev. Fred Milne officiated, assisted by Captain Lois Latimer. The soloist was Stephanie Gilmer who sang         Amazing Grace accompanied by organist Marie Cowan. Her great-grandson Thomas read from the Prophet Isaiah. Interment took place at South Gower Cemetery. Pallbearers were her daughter Lela, grandsons Robin and David, granddaughter-in-law Catherine and nephews Ronald Sloan and Sheldon Gilmer. Cecil Howard Gilmour, 92 Matilda Township native Cecil Howard Gilmour died at Wellington House Nursing Home, in Prescott on July 22, 1999.  He was 92. He is survived by daughters Eileen (Mrs. Orville Christie), Lois (Mrs. Ernie King), Helen (Mrs. Gerry Acton), Joyce (Mrs. Doug Kendrick) and Sheila (Mrs. John Dugan Jr.), as well as by son   Clifford and his wife Shirley. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as a well as a brother, Garnet, sisters-in-law Doris Gilmour and Margaret Gilmour and by                numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gilmour was predeceased his wife Christena Jeanetta Gilmour, by a daughter Velma, a son Donald, sisters Mabel Fader, Zelma Dishaw and Mildred Locke, by brothers Floyd,           Ambrose, Roy, William, Arnold, Sylvester, Deb and Alex and by his parents John Gilmour and Martha Brown, to whom he was born in Matilda Township on October 8, 1906. Mr. Gilmour was self-employed as a carpenter. Visitation was held at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, 392 Edward St., Prescott on July 26. The funeral service was held in the chapel of the funeral home on July 27 at 2 p.m. Ms. Shelly Manley-Tannis officiated. Committal Service was at St. Andrew's Cemetery in Spencerville, where burial took place. Pallbearers were Les Hutton, Stuart Irving, Everett Connell, Ralph Sayeau, John Biccum and Arnold Grey. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Wellington House Palliative Care are appreciated. - The Prescott Journal, August 4, 1999.
